ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION:
My Voice Music (MVM) is a nonprofit organization based in Portland, Oregon that helps youth find and share their voice through songwriting, recording and performance.
Music programs range from: weekly therapeutic music sessions to 8–week rock band and hip-hop programs and week-long rock band camps where youth learn to play instruments, write songs and record them.
Each year MVM reaches about 1,600 youth. Approximately 75 percent of the youth we serve are living in foster care homes, therapeutic treatment centers, and/or juvenile detention centers. We host music programs and classes out of our music center and studio in SE Portland and on-site at local youth service agencies.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Position Title: Development Associate
Reports To: Development Director
Hours: 10-15 hours a week (flexible Mon-Thurs), occasional evenings and weekends required and increased hours in event seasons (May, Sept., Oct)
Compensation: $16-19/hour depending on experience
Location: Position would be a combination of working from home and from MVM Studios in inner SE Portland, including a weekly team meeting.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Development Associate will work closely with the Development Director to execute all fundraising initiatives, most notably, our Fall gala and Spring benefit concert and auction. The Development Associate will also help with donor communications, including sending tax receipts, and thank you letters. They will also become well acquainted with the donor database, including running reports and importing data.
JOB DUTIES:
- Donor communications including compiling and sending tax receipts, handwritten thank you cards, donor phone calls, mass mailings etc.
- Donor database management – entry and report running
- In kind donation procurement for events, including, but not limited to auction packages and food and beverage donations
- Assembly of event slides, signage, program with the use of a template
- Design and distribution of emails through programs such as Constant Contact and Bloomerang in collaboration with Development and Executive Director
- Occasionally attend programs to take photos and video for social media content or coordinate with staff, interns or others to take photos and send stories
- Other tasks as needed
EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to work collaboratively in a creative process, willing to gain new skills as the organization grows, and to take on new tasks as needed.
- Computer Skills: Must be adept at using various applications including those in Microsoft Suite and on the Google platform and be able to quickly learn new programs (experience with Bloomerang, Constant Contact and WordPress are a plus).
- Attention to detail, outstanding organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Exemplary writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (via email, phone and in person), positive attitude, and ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to relate effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds and to imbed equitable, inclusive, and trauma-informed practices in all aspects of one’s role.
- Access to a vehicle during event season (May, Sept., Oct.).
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Experience with fundraising and development strategies (i.e. fundraising events, email and direct mail appeals, third-party events, etc,).
- Experience with developing both digital and direct mail campaigns for fundraising initiatives, events, and donor acquisition efforts.
- Understanding of database management best practices, and experience in managing a donor database.
