Supervises: Development Manager, Community Services Manager, Design and Communications Contractor, and Grant Strategy Contractor

 

SCOPE OF WORK:

The Director or Development and Communications supports the Executive Director in the development and implementation of Our House’s fundraising and marketing/communications strategies and represents the organization in the absence of the Executive Director.  The position works closely with the Leadership Team to help support and guide the implementation of development and communication plans.

The Development and Communications Director is responsible for working with a variety of partners, both public and private, to achieve the organization’s funding and organizational growth goals. The position oversees the organization’s communications, volunteer department, and community services department.

Full-time and exempt, the Development and Communications Director reports to the Executive Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Represents the organization, as requested by the Executive Director, to community partners, key stakeholders, and business partners
  • Develops and implements fundraising, donor management, business development, and partnership strategies related to the organization’s strategic priorities
  • Provides guidance, as requested by the Executive Director, for program activities including outreach and partnership development
  • Oversees the development and implementation of marketing, communications, public relations and social media, working closely with Design and Communications contractor.
  • Exercises good judgment and successfully handles ambiguity
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with all internal/external interface points
  • Stay informed about trends in philanthropy and grantmaking. Attend regional workshops and conferences. Network with other development professionals.
  • Keep informed on the continually changing nature of HIV
  • Executes annual gala and Dinner Series fundraising events with staff and committee support
  • Oversees and develops grant strategy working closely with grant strategist/writer
  • Must be willing to work evenings and weekends for events
  • Other duties as requested by the Executive Director

EXECUTIVE LEVEL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides organizational leadership through full participation on Leadership Team, through involvement in agency-wide activities
  • As a member of the organization’s Leadership Team, recommends and helps monitor performance in areas of organizational development, communications, ann community affairs
  • Attends all-staff, management team, Board Development Committee, Board Finance Committee, Board of Directors meetings and planning retreats
  • Attends major agency fundraisers, receptions and other functions, as required
  • Actively promotes and markets the agency in the community and in partnership with other agencies and key stakeholders

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 5 years of experience designing, implementing, and managing complex projects with multiple partners
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Experience working with Boards of Directors and Board committees
  • At least 3 years of experience in fundraising and development
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Passion for agency’s mission and impact
  • Strong commitment to achieving agency’s equity and inclusion goals
  • Experience in leading volunteer committees and nurturing volunteer leadership
  • Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships
  • Be a self-starter and goal driven
  • Sensitivity to issues facing persons living with HIV, and histories of mental illness, homelessness, and/or drug use
  • Ability to manage website content and updates using wix.com
  • Comfort with technology including new or unfamiliar platforms. Currently used formats include Greater Giving, Raisers Edge, All Social Media, Meet Edgar, MailChimp, and Wix

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiency in MS Office products
  • PC experience; network experience; Windows environment; email; internet
  • Raisers Edge donor software knowledge
  • Greater Giving event software knowledge
